The Mountain of Forever

So last night, after getting off of work, I went for a walk around the neighborhood with my son. We do this occasionally and started the habit out of getting him to learn his spelling words. You see, the boy is part spasmoid and part hyperactive little shit. He just can’t stay focused so we(I) walk with him as a physical outlet while he recites his words. Well, this week is spring break and so we didn’t have any words to go over. He is something of a talker and so he usually keeps my ears pretty warm. Last night he asked me, “What was the one thing that I created and had lost by having somebody destroy it and now miss” or something to that effect.

The first thing that came to mind didn’t quite fit his criteria but I ran with it anyway. It was mount muscle. I explained that when I was a teenager, my (“baby”)brother and I had created a large sand ‘mountain’ on one of the beaches of Hawaii. Its size was fisherman exaggerated (as all good stories are) and how it was as tall as he was. The year was somewhere around 1990 and the SNL characters of ‘Hans-n-Frans’ was trending. We created it over the span of several hours while using our best imitation of germanic body builder voices and declared it as ‘Pump-tacular’. Yeah, I(we) were juvenile as what else would you expect?

Well, our time came to an end and the tides came back in. Our once great monument went from Fab to Flab as it was washed away.

Wakanda Mount-Muscle Forever!

Game of Leaks & Playing Whack a Stark(??)

Soooo…

The season 8 premiere of Game of Thrones was last Sunday night. Was it worth the wait? With only episode 1 having been released its a bit too early to make any true assessments. The first episode, in my opinion, was used to reestablish the characters and plots with the viewers since it was two years ago that season 7 was released.

I will say I am looking forward to the remaining five episodes and seeing who survives GRRMreaper.

(only 5??? boo-hoo *wwaaaa!!!!!)

So, what else?

My kids have been off of school this past week thanks to spring break and my productivity has dropped to being almost non-existent. My mother and her boyfriend had also come to visit which only further limited my productivity.

Oh… I bought myself a new *GAMER* laptop the other day and am anxiously awaiting its shipping arrival. I paid $800 (+$66 taxes) for it so its not a powerhouse by any means but the thing does list some impressive stats.

Dell G5587-5542BLK-PUS Laptop 15.6″ FHD, Intel i5-8300H, 16GB RAM, GTX 1060, 256GB SSD+1TB HDD

I’m going to finally be able to play some of the games I’ve been missing out on since starting a family. You see way back in the late 90’s to mid 00’s I used to participate in local LAN leagues. I even purchased my own domain for it and was considering expanding it into a part-time business. The thing is I also saw the writing on the walls and knew that LAN centers were whimsical and so never pulled the trigger on going big with it.

Doesn’t mean I didn’t have fun though 🙂

My daughter was born in 2006 and from that point forward my gaming time has been somewhat stunted.

One of the other reasons I’m anxious about getting my new laptop is finally being able to consolidate my various drafts/versions of stories down as they exist on a plethora of various media devices. With the large drive on the unit, I can start consolidating my various files together.

What else…

We’re getting a new roof for our house. Our house was built in 1989 and has stone tiles. Yes, stone tiles are supposed to last a lifetime* and it’s now thirty years later. By liftime, the industry states that as about 50 years. So our roof is on the geriatric side of its existence and when it was installed the contractors went cheap in a number of areas and time has taken its toll. Translation, its time to throw out the baby with the bathwater… er… wait. That’s not what I meant but then again… f-it. We are just going to get a new roof and be done with it. We are tired of playing wack-a-starkmole with all the leaks that keep appearing.

Okay, that’s it for now. I need to actually get back to pretending I’m working since I’m at work today.

*full disclosure: I started this blog post prior to work but only got halfway through it.

Jessica Day ~ 20k words

I’m hovering around 20k in words now. 🙂

It’s the story of a lovely man with three lovely boys who meets a woman with three lovely girls of her own.

Okay, not really.

I did manage to get in a Michael Scott joke today.

Yes, that means that before the end of it a Dwight one should also make an appearance.

Say your grade! (Shazam Movie)

Yeah, I going to give the movie, a DC movie, a high rating.

It was entertaining and kept my interest throughout. I still find the premise a little hokey (ancient magic stuff) but aside from that it was rather well done.

In the spirit of ‘not trying to spoil the movie’, I’m not sure how much I’m going to be able to say here.

There were plenty of meta jokes in it which is always a bonus for nerd types.

what else…

The part where they fix the flux capacitor is really well done… oh, I’ve away a movie joke? My bad. Now if you are a true nerd you will the weak attempt at humor on my part.

I don’t know what else to say about it other than it was a good movie and if you find yourself needing some entertainment then go check it out.

I’m going to give the movie the grade of…

ShA-zam!

To Shazam or Not

So the wife and kids are going out of town on Saturday. You know what that means, right?

When the cat’s away this overweight dork is going to possibly go get his nerd on.

Or

I could do something more productive with my time

Ha!

From the trailers I’ve seen, this looks like it’s going to be a fun movie. It’s intentionally being goofy about itself which is much different from the ‘Surfer Bro’ styled Aquaman. While I enjoyed the Fishman movie just not enough to give it high praise. Think C+/B- range here.

Wonder Woman, on my personal scale, got a B-/B rating. It had a more serious tone but also just didn’t hit it out of the park like everyone else was praising it for.

Captain Marvel, that got a B/B+. It was stuffed with “women power” crap that just didn’t need to be there. I’ve always tried to keep an open mind about how women can be just as *stupid as men.

*(kind, cruel, intelligent, shortsighted, etc…)

Men don’t hold the patent on being idiots, women can do it just Dwight all on their own.

After I saw the Captain Marvel movie I ran across this review on youtube and thought it was kinda on point.

In the end, as I need to wrap this up and head into work, I think I will go see Shazam as who doesn’t like the possibility of having a well deserved good time?

Dwight?

Am I Dwight or am I Dwight?

Oh god no… I just called myself Dwight?!?!?!?!?

B.S. and the calling of it (Dave is EVIL)

I am fully aware of the fact that everyone has weird family members. I don’t have a monopoly. In fact, I would consider my family to be more on the normal side when compared to all the wackos that are out there.

Even then, I still like to stir the pot.

My mother and her 20+ year boyfriend landed last night in Seattle after spending the last few weeks in Europe. My mother uses the WhatsApp chatting platform on her phone to keep in contact with a plethora of people.

What follows is our conversation

***

My Brother: Happy you got back safe. Any good movies in the flight?

Mother: Yes, I watched Argo. Really interesting.

My Brother: Ooh. Haven’t seen it.

Mother: If was full of suspense, really enjoyed it. And this morning in the breakfast room talked to a woman whose father was with Delta Force, and on secret missions for the gov’t. Interesting stuff.

EvilDave: You mean like what *Bob* did?

(*not really name)

Mother: Bob was not in the military.

EvilDave: He’s said he was…??? Some years ago he was telling *MyWife’s uncle about a covert op he did.

My Brother: Maybe it was super secret service?

EvilDave: super-dooper full of pooper secret service??

Mother: He did under cover work for the Sherriff’s Dept. I guess that is similar work.

EvilDave: I can’t picture him in drag.

***

For some reason, the conversation died off right about then.

Hhrrmmmm…..

~750ish words today

I would have done more but I spent far too much time googling this…

Polydactyly

A baby born with polydactyly has more than five fingers on one hand. An extra finger is often a small piece of soft tissue that can be simply removed. Sometimes, the extra finger contains bones but not joints. Very rarely, the extra finger is a fully functioning digit. A baby may be born with several extra fingers.

There are several different types of polydactyly. Radial polydactyly means there is an extra thumb. Ulnar polydactyly means there is an extra pinky finger. When an extra digit is located in the center of the hand, it is called central polydactyly.

Polydactyly is the most common congenital hand deformity. It affects boys and girls equally. Black children are more likely to have ulnar polydactyly, and Asian and white children are more likely to have radial polydactyly.

Yeah, I got lost for a bit thanks to google.

1,183 words today

I’ve always known that my personality type is that of a provider. I do for others often before myself. It’s just a part of who I am.

*which is another reason I fought so much against the Demonic-Dwight. Life sucking anal-harpy.

My kids, as much as I love them, as little rat bastards that demand all of my time and resources. Its what kids do. I understand that.

(*not “head up their own ass” condescending Dwights)

The funny thing is that today. I got to sneak away and have some DAVE-TIME (Dr. Prescribed) and managed to, in the span of an hour+, get down close to 1,200 words for my Jessica story. The funny thing was it was uninterrupted time.

So… by leaving me the F-alone, I was able to be productive.

Huh… Go figure.

Gone are the days of being able to type away on my 11″ laptop on light rail twice a day for an hour. As much as I regret saying this, for other (anal-harpy) reasons, I miss those days.

March 26 2019

466 words this morning

It’s not great but its still progress in my *Jessica* story. I don’t have an official name for it as of yet so I’m using that as a placeholder until something tickles my… uh… interest???

Total word count for the entire story is…

*(looking through my pages)*

I’m sitting at around 9,000 words.

Guess what I’m watching over eating my lunch today

I have a new respect for Monika Lewinski. You go girl.

So I’m eating a salad and all I can think of is someone else eating something else.

That being said… Go eat a turd Dwight!

Yes, there is a difference.

Monika was a young victim. Dwight, who still resides in self-imposed ignorance, remains a predator.

Go suck on it* Dwight.

*just not my (limp, green, small-nutted) salad*

😛
