And then it came to me… The Power of Bacon

So I’ve hit a bit of a wall in my PeeKay story as of yesterday but as inspiration would have it not so much anymore. “Personally” I don’t believe in writers block, at least for myself. I may hit a part where I don’t know how to navigate through but give it a bit of time and I know, thanks to my squirrel like brain, something will shape itself to fit my hole. That sounds kind of dirty and I’m okay with that. So as of yesterday, I had a half idea as to my heroes healing and zero idea as to his next mission. My son, in typical early Sunday wake-up mode, kicked me in the nards, yes he is still sneaking into our bed in the middle of the night, and then kicks out when he is asleep, gave me some time to think as I was holding my balls in pain earlier this morning.

So there I am in bed, with my son sleeping next to me, and with my hands down my pants trying to cuddle and massage myself….from the impact. I’m thinking this is sounding far worse than it should be but it’s also the truth so bite me. Anyway, the half idea I had comes into full bloom. Here it is…”The Power of Bacon.” WHat’s this you say? Hear(read) me out for a minute.

I heard about new medical procedure a few years back that takes cells from a bovine and reforms them into something called pixie dust. Just google the following “pixie dust medical” and the link in question is here. So what it does in a nutshell, is use the pig material as a stem cell patch.

I am writing a fictional book…so take something that is true…the above…and manipulate it into something I can use. THE POWER OF BACON. Here is my tie in. My protagonist had a special enzyme injected into his blood stream that allows him to metastasis pig DNA in much the same way. If he is injured all he needs to do is ingest some bacon and it works like a medical potion of curing wounds.

From the beginning I’ve known I’ve wanted him to heal faster but haven’t had a need for it to really happen as of yet. Being only 10,000 words in he has just now suffered his first grievous wound so far in the story so I don’t have that much to go through and place hints about. I am going to have him chow down on some sausage links before going into the big fight scene (put the gun on the mantle) but am going to leave the links as to why as kind of nebulous to the reader for the time being. Hey, the guy really likes bacon, who doesn’t. đŸ˜›

It also works for me in the sense of explaining his rather erratic behavior. Cells that grow back don’t always have the same exact connections the original ones had. You know, a photocopy is always a little bit different from the original. And when it comes to ‘gray matter’ that can leave a mark.

The other half idea I got this morning is to the next mission he is going to undertake. I’m going to save spoiling that just yet as I’m still trying to hatch that part out. Speaking of hatching, I think I need to go and make my morning offering at the ivory shrine.
